A new study has found that the health and economic burden of long covid in Australia is significant, especially among working adults.

The research, led by the University of Melbourne, the Australian National University (ANU), and UNSW Sydney, calculated the disease cost the Australian economy about $9.6 billion (£4.9 billion) between 2022 and 2023. Additionally, long-covid related illnesses still affect sufferers up to 12 months after initial diagnosis, resulting in a consequential amount of lost or reduced working hours.
