A UK recruitment agency has avoided a defamation claim after making knowingly false statements about a former worker to their new employer and potential clients. 

In a decision on Wednesday, the UK Supreme Court ruled that defendants cannot be found liable for malicious falsehood likely to cause financial harm if that harm ultimately does not occur.
