A number of Chinese companies are accused of asking female job applicants to take pregnancy tests, according to state-run media.

On 15 July, Procuratorial Daily reported that authorities had uncovered illegal pregnancy testing carried out on 168 women during pre-employment physical check-ups. The women had been applying for positions at 16 companies in Nantong, a city in the eastern province of Jiangsu.
