Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was sworn in for a historic third term on Sunday evening following the six-week-long Lok Sabha election that saw almost 1 billion Indians eligible to vote. 

Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which has ruled for the past decade with an outright majority, had been expecting another landslide win when the election began in mid-April.
