In the last decade, the corporate culture on how to evaluate allegations of wrongdoing or fraud has significantly changed, as such allegations can easily become public due to the increasing use of social media and communication tools. Accordingly, it has become common for employers to explore the authenticity of allegations and/or suspicions by conducting internal investigations.
However, several factors – such as these investigations being non-routine processes, privacy concerns, and possible legal infringements – make investigations challenging and complicated for employers.
