With the Western world facing a growing housing crisis, company towns, where employees live and work under the watchful eye of their employers, might be making a big comeback.

Reminiscent of the 19th century communities established by American and British industrialists, multinational firms including Google, Tesla, Meta, and Disney are all building employee housing close to their US business hubs. But this is not a uniquely American trend.
