Chile introduces stricter data protection regime

With the creation of a new data protection watchdog and hefty fines regime, Chile has passed new legislation designed to improve the protection of personal data.

The legal changes, first proposed in 2017, are intended to bring Chile in line with the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), as well as other Latin American countries, and to face challenges posed by the evolving digital economy.
