Japan urged to tackle structural bias, human rights concerns

Japan must work harder to dismantle structural discrimination and inequality stemming from deeply embedded harmful gender and social norms, a UN human rights expert has said. 

During an interview in Tokyo last week, Pichamon Yeophantong, a member of the UN Human Rights Council’s Working Group on Business and Human Rights, expressed concern about social norms resulting in widespread harassment and discrimination in Japan’s workplaces.
