The Malaysian government has been cautioned against introducing heavy-handed legislation designed to provide platform workers with greater employment rights.

Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob has dissolved parliament and an election will be called soon. However, tackling issues arising out of the gig economy will continue to be on the political agenda for whoever wins the next election.
