India’s central government is expected to introduce a new index ranking the codification of employment and labour legislation at the state and territorial level.

The “Labour Welfare and Employment Index” (LWEI), as it is being referred to by local media, is the result of consultation between the Ministry of Labour and Employment, state governments, territory authorities, unions, and the NITI Aayog, the central government’s policy think tank.
