With pressure mounting on multinational firms to take accountability for their global supply chains, businesses operating in the Philippines must take extra care to avoid alleged labour abuses.

Known as “red-tagging”, the blacklisting of individuals considered to be communist or pro-labour is an ongoing concern, with the practice described as “a threat to people’s life, liberty, and security” in a recent ruling from the Philippines Supreme Court.
