Australia’s casual workers may soon find it easier to to convert to full-time employment under proposed new reforms aimed at improving job security.

Speaking at The Sydney Institute on 22 July, Workplace Relations Minister Tony Burke said the Labour government is determined to “close the loophole that leaves people stuck classified as casuals when they actually work permanent regular hours”.

Burke claimed that current legislation help employers take “all the advantages of a reliable workforce and not providing any of the job security in return”.
