To enhance the operational capabilities of a company’s branch or productive unit, an employer may wish to consider posting foreign workers in a host country. 

In the context of US workers in Italy, which must be done via transnational posting, the posting employer retains responsibility for the workers, who remain employed under the terms of their original employment contract. This includes arrangements by temporary employment agencies, which also fall under the umbrella of transnational postings.
