IBM Japan has reached a historic agreement to disclose how it uses AI in employee evaluations with the Japan Metal, Manufacturing, Information, and Telecommunication Workers’ Union (JMITU), ending a five-year dispute.

Approved by the country’s Labour Relations Commission on 1 August, the agreement allows the union to monitor workplace AI use and requires IBM Japan to disclose the 40 criteria its AI uses when evaluating staff performance.
