Spain has this month published the “Basic law on equal representation and a balance presence of men and women”, which introduces enhanced gender balance obligations for employers.

Under the new law, companies must ensure that selection procedures for their board of directors favour equality between men and women. Boards must also maintain a gender balance where at least 40% of seats are held by the underrepresented sex.
